Governor Sherrill Takes Another Step Forward in Addressing the State’s Energy Crisis By Signing Legislation to Expand Access to Nuclear Power
The New Jersey State AFL-CIO commends Governor Sherrill for signing legislation today that removes outdated statutory barriers that burden the expansion of nuclear power in the state. S-3870 promotes the construction and operation of advanced nuclear reactors. Growth of nuclear energy will create well-paying construction, maintenance and operations jobs and is a vital source of zero-emission, reliable and affordable energy that will help to address the state’s energy affordability crisis.
The law, sponsored by Senate President Scutari, Senators Sarlo and Tiver and Assemblymembers Miller, DeAngelo, Walker and Egan was signed in Lower Alloway’s Creek near the Salem nuclear power plant.
Thank you to Senate President Scutari and Senator Sarlo for their leadership on this bill. And once again, we recognize the efforts of our union brothers Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo, the Chairman of the Telecommunications and Utilities Committee, Assemblyman Kevin Egan, Vice-Chair of the Assembly Labor Committee and Senator Tiver, member of the Energy and Environment Committee, for their efforts in advancing the law.
