
Craig A. Ford
President
Craig A. Ford is the national president of NUHHCE/AFSCME, International Vice President for American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, and secretary-treasurer of District 1199J. Ford was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. His family moved to Philadelphia and he graduated from the Philadelphia Public Schools. He continued his education at the University of Pittsburgh and, after graduation, enrolled in Rutgers University, where he earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration. In addition, he received several educational certifications from his continuing studies at The George Meany Center for Labor Studies, Saint Joseph’s University, New York University, Harvard University, and the American Arbitration Association, Pennsylvania. In 1992 he became an organizer for the NUHHCE 1199J to organize workers in the private and public sectors in the healthcare industry. While working out of the New Jersey office, he also joined in organizing campaigns in Atlanta, Chicago, Memphis and Washington, D.C. In addition, he has worked as an organizer in New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Ohio, and California. His efforts helped NUHHCE gain thousands of new members and enabled thousands to have union representation. In 1994, Craig Ford was reassigned to Philadelphia District 1199C, NUHHCE, where he became an administrative organizer in the hospital division. He handled collective bargaining agreements, negotiating terms and conditions of the members’ working conditions, due process hearings involving grievances and arbitrations. In 2000, he served as the state director and founder of the NUHHCE 1199J, New Jersey Home Health Care Union, where he assisted in creating an affiliation between USWA, Local 306-CFC and NUHHCE 1199J. He also co-authored the 2002 Proclamation of the Hudson County Ordinance “living wage” for all health care providers. In 2004 he was appointed vice president of the hospital division of District 1199J. In 2006, he was elected as secretary of the NUHHCE, and in 2010 he was appointed and then elected as secretary-treasurer of District 1199J. He served as vice president of the Central Labor Board Council of Bergen County, New Jersey, and is currently chairman of the Aberdeen Solomon David Scholarship Fund. He is director of the 1199J Political Action Committee, Benefit Fund Trustee of the District 1199J Training and Development Fund and Trustee of the New Jersey Pension Fund. He formerly served on the District 1199C Pension Fund, as trustee of the Philadelphia Legal Service Plan, trustee of District 1199C Training & Upgrading Fund and the Philadelphia Vicinity Heath Care Fund. R. Daryn Martin
Secretary-Treasurer
Daryn was born, raised and educated in Jersey City, NJ. After moving from JC in 2001, he lived in Newark, NJ for 13 years before relocating to Union, NJ. Daryn has been married to his beautiful wife Tammy for 27 years, and their daughter Ebonie is 22, and their son Daryn is 18 years of age. Martin is a proud member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Jersey City, NJ under the leadership of his Pastor Rev. Dr. Alonzo Perry Sr. He has served on several ministries at the church, and presently serves on the security task force, the male chorus, the men’s league, the Deacon board, and New Hope ETC (Educate the Child) Board of Directors. Brother Martin was named Speaker of the House by his Pastor. Daryn is the former President for NJ Acorn (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now), and a current member of the NAACP in Jersey City. Daryn is President of the Board of Trustees for Little One’s preschool, daycare, and summer camp in East Orange, NJ, Vice President for CTCO (Christa Tamiria Capers Organization) in Jersey City, NJ, and an Executive and Advisory Board member for PULSE (Parents Unified for Local School Education) in Newark, NJ. Mr. Martin is a member of APRI (A. Philip Randolph Institute), and Director of Community Relations for the group Concerned Citizens of Vauxhall and Vicinity Civic Association in Union and Vauxhall NJ. Rodney is a former football and basketball coach in Union, NJ, and a former NFL flag football coach in Morristown, NJ. He is the former President of the PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) at Ivy Hill Elementary School in Newark, Nj where he was falsely and illegally arrested and banned from his children’s school for standing up and opposing a plan that was being forced on parents by a corrupt school superintendent and her cronies. Martin filed a lawsuit against the school district, won his case with all charges dismissed, and earned his great name and reputation back. Brother D as he is affectionately known at work is the proud Secretary-Treasurer at District 1199), National Union of Hospital and Health Care Employees, AFSCME/AFL-CIO for the past 23 years in Newark, NJ. Phyllis Lee
Executive Vice President, Hospital/Guilds Divisions
In 1993, Phyllis Lee was a member and delegate employed at Atrium-At-Wayne (formerly known as Alps Manor) until she joined the staff of District 1199J in 1996 as an Administrative Organizer. She continued in that role until 2004, when she was appointed State Director of the Home Care Division. She was elected State Director in 2005 and re-elected in 2008. In 2011, she was elected Vice President of the Hospital Division. Ms. Lee is now the Executive Vice President of the Hospital Division and serves as a Trustee to the 1199J Benefit, Pension, and Training & Development Funds. She is Co-Chairperson for District 1199J’s Women’s Committee, serves on the Political Action Committee, and is the District’s Health and Safety Liaison.

Jaimie Hirsch
Executive Vice President, Nursing/Public Sector
Jaimie Hirsch was appointed Executive Vice President of the Nursing/Guild Division and Public Sector in November 2023. Additionally, he serves as a Trustee for the District 1199J Pension and Benefit Funds and is a Vice President of the National Union of Hospital and Healthcare Employees. Mr. Hirsch began working for District 1199J in August 2007 as an Administrative Organizer with the Guild Division. Before District 1199J, Mr. Hirsch graduated with BA in Psychology from Montclair State University, and was employed at Care Plus NJ Inc, known initially as Mid-Bergen Community Mental Health Center, first in summer of 1997 as a volunteer with the Medical Adult Day Care Program, and then in October 1997 as a full time Residence Counselor/Mental Health Worker with the Residential Program. It was during this time, in 1998, that Mr. Hirsch became an active Delegate with District 1199J. From January 2000 to August 2007, Mr. Hirsch concluded his employment with Care Plus NJ Inc as a Screener with the Psychiatric Emergency Screening Program of Bergen County.

In 2020 he was confirmed by the NJ State Senate to serve on the Board of the New Jersey Public Employment Relations Commission as a state commissioner.

R. Daryn Martin
Secretary-Treasurer
Daryn was born, raised and educated in Jersey City, NJ. After moving from JC in 2001, he lived in Newark, NJ for 13 years before relocating to Union, NJ. Daryn has been married to his beautiful wife Tammy for 27 years, and their daughter Ebonie is 22, and their son Daryn is 18 years of age. Martin is a proud member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Jersey City, NJ under the leadership of his Pastor Rev. Dr. Alonzo Perry Sr. He has served on several ministries at the church, and presently serves on the security task force, the male chorus, the men’s league, the Deacon board, and New Hope ETC (Educate the Child) Board of Directors. Brother Martin was named Speaker of the House by his Pastor. Daryn is the former President for NJ Acorn (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now), and a current member of the NAACP in Jersey City. Daryn is President of the Board of Trustees for Little One’s preschool, daycare, and summer camp in East Orange, NJ, Vice President for CTCO (Christa Tamiria Capers Organization) in Jersey City, NJ, and an Executive and Advisory Board member for PULSE (Parents Unified for Local School Education) in Newark, NJ. Mr. Martin is a member of APRI (A. Philip Randolph Institute), and Director of Community Relations for the group Concerned Citizens of Vauxhall and Vicinity Civic Association in Union and Vauxhall NJ. Rodney is a former football and basketball coach in Union, NJ, and a former NFL flag football coach in Morristown, NJ. He is the former President of the PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) at Ivy Hill Elementary School in Newark, Nj where he was falsely and illegally arrested and banned from his children’s school for standing up and opposing a plan that was being forced on parents by a corrupt school superintendent and her cronies. Martin filed a lawsuit against the school district, won his case with all charges dismissed, and earned his great name and reputation back. Brother D as he is affectionately known at work is the proud Secretary-Treasurer at District 1199), National Union of Hospital and Health Care Employees, AFSCME/AFL-CIO for the past 23 years in Newark, NJ. Mr. Martin is a member of the Township of Union Board of Health, an elected Union Township District Leader, a member of his local PTA, and a Mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Union, Hudson, and Essex Counties. Daryn is the humble recipient of various educational, professional, and community awards which includes the prestigious John Lewis “Good Trouble” Award, the Men of Distinction Award, and countless Outstanding Community Service Awards. He salutes and thanks his parents for raising him to be respectful, caring, and loving to everyone, and to always stand up for what’s right, even if he has to stand alone. Phyllis Lee
Executive Vice President, Hospital/Guilds Divisions
In 1993, Phyllis Lee was a member and delegate employed at Atrium-At-Wayne (formerly known as Alps Manor) until she joined the staff of District 1199J in 1996 as an Administrative Organizer. She continued in that role until 2004, when she was appointed State Director of the Home Care Division. She was elected State Director in 2005 and re-elected in 2008. In 2011, she was elected Vice President of the Hospital Division. Ms. Lee is now the Executive Vice President of the Hospital Division and serves as a Trustee to the 1199J Benefit, Pension, and Training & Development Funds. She is Co-Chairperson for District 1199J’s Women’s Committee, serves on the Political Action Committee, and is the District’s Health and Safety Liaison.

Jaimie Hirsch
Executive Vice President, Nursing/Public Sector
Jaimie Hirsch was appointed Executive Vice President of the Nursing/Guild Division and Public Sector in November 2023. Additionally, he serves as a Trustee for the District 1199J Pension and Benefit Funds and is a Vice President of the National Union of Hospital and Healthcare Employees. Mr. Hirsch began working for District 1199J in August 2007 as an Administrative Organizer with the Guild Division. Before District 1199J, Mr. Hirsch graduated with BA in Psychology from Montclair State University, and was employed at Care Plus NJ Inc, known initially as Mid-Bergen Community Mental Health Center, first in summer of 1997 as a volunteer with the Medical Adult Day Care Program, and then in October 1997 as a full time Residence Counselor/Mental Health Worker with the Residential Program. It was during this time, in 1998, that Mr. Hirsch became an active Delegate with District 1199J. From January 2000 to August 2007, Mr. Hirsch concluded his employment with Care Plus NJ Inc as a Screener with the Psychiatric Emergency Screening Program of Bergen County.
