We give special recognition to our union-organized registered nurses, who have never backed down in the fight for dignity, justice, and quality healthcare. These nurses have stood on the front lines—not only at the bedside, but in the streets, in negotiations, and in the halls of power—demanding better education, safer working conditions, fair wages, enforceable staffing ratios, and healthcare that puts people before profit.

For decades, we have witnessed efforts to cut funding for nursing education, stretch nurses beyond safe patient limits, and dismantle the protections that keep our communities safe. Time and again, decisions have been made that place corporate profits above human lives.

But union nurses have refused to accept that reality.

They have organized. They have spoken out. They have fought back.

Because of their unwavering commitment, our communities are safer, our standards are higher, and the fight for healthcare justice continues to move forward.

Today, we proudly recognize and salute the union Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses of District 1199J, National Union of Healthcare Employees, AFSCME, AFL-CIO and your dedication, your resilience, and your refusal to stay silent inspire us all.

This National Nurses Day, we don’t just celebrate you—we stand with you in the ongoing fight for healthcare justice for all.

In solidarity, today and always – Congratulations!

-Craig A. Ford, President of District 1199J
