Tyeisha Reaves
State Director
Tyeisha Reaves is a dedicated labor leader and public sector advocate whose career reflects an unwavering commitment to the rights, dignity, and welfare of working people. A proud alumna of New Jersey City University, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice—an academic foundation rooted in justice, equity, and civic responsibility that continues to shape her leadership today.
Tyeisha began her professional career in 2007 at Logan Hall, working in correctional reentry and providing critical support to individuals rebuilding their lives after incarceration. It was in this challenging environment that her leadership abilities first became evident. Recognizing her strength of character and natural ability to advocate for others, colleagues encouraged her to pursue a role in the labor movement—a calling she embraced by becoming a union delegate.
As a union delegate, Tyeisha quickly established herself as a strong advocate for workers, representing members in contract negotiations and workplace matters with diligence and integrity. Her effectiveness and commitment led to her election to the Executive Board in 2012, further deepening her dedication to advancing the union’s mission.
In 2018, Tyeisha expanded her leadership in labor advocacy by joining District 1199J as an Administrative Organizer within the Public Sector Division. In this role, she broadened her expertise while strengthening her commitment to addressing the unique needs and challenges faced by public sector workers. Her impact within the organization was both immediate and lasting, ultimately leading to her appointment as State Director.
Today, as State Director of District 1199J, Tyeisha serves as a leading voice for working people throughout the state of New Jersey. She continues to lead with purpose, guided by a deep commitment to solidarity, worker justice, and the continued growth and strength of the labor movement.
